Rewriting Black History

Through these five portraits, I explored the stories of iconic Black women across different eras, artists, musicians, poets, and visionaries who shaped history through their talent, strength, and presence. From the poetic voice of Gwendolyn Bennett poems to the magnetic soul and funk spirit of Betty Davis and the revolutionary art of Elizabeth Catlett, Edmonia Lewis and Betye Saar, each piece honors their essence and cultural legacy.

Created as part of the Redrawing Black History course by Tamisha Anthony and Lilla Rogers, this series reflects my commitment to learning, representation, and celebrating voices that deserve to be seen and that that opened space for new voices.
